X Money, eligibility, ITIN path, deposits, withdrawals, and the 6% APY rules

X Money was still rolling out in batches in August 2026. Premium and the entry, five official eligibility points, cloud-resident ITIN / address / US phone prep,

What this is

Money in the X sidebar is no longer a thin social add-on. Official product pages and public notes around 27 July 2026 describe interest, Visa debit cash back, instant sends to other X users, payroll, wires, mailed checks, and ATM cash worldwide with ATM fees refunded. Deposit accounts sit at Cross River Bank and similar firms. X Payments LLC is not a bank and is not an FDIC bank.

As of mid-August 2026 the product was still rolling out to some US users. The product page says a portion of US users. The official X Money account said around 27 July that it had started pushing to US Premium and Premium+ users. Plenty of people updated the app and paid for Premium and still have no tab. Premium means you are more likely to sit in the current cohort. It does not promise a Money label today.

This walks eligibility, papers, verification and security, a small first deposit, send and withdraw, interest and cash back, the card and limits, then the bank and FDIC structure. A separate block covers the ITIN, US address, and US mobile path that cloud residents often use. Whether the tab appears, and whether review passes, follow what your account shows and what the bank side verifies.

Before you start

Five official eligibility points (FAQ notes)

You usually need all of these.

  1. Age 18 or older
  2. US resident
  3. A verified US mobile number
  4. An X account in good standing
  5. Agree to the account documents shown at open

Review also wants full legal name, date of birth, SSN or ITIN, and a US residential address. If auto-match fails, you may upload a government photo ID and a selfie. There is no Money without an X account. Money hangs on that account.

If you cannot see Money

  1. Update the X app
  2. Fully quit and reopen
  3. Try a stable network or another device

Official FAQ says Money is only for some US users. You get a notice when the account enters the cohort. If the tab is still missing, wait for the push. Do not wipe data all day or open extra accounts to force it.

A common cloud-resident prep path

Official copy says US resident. In community practice, some people open with an ITIN, a full US residential address, and a network that passes review. Success is entirely X / bank review. This guide does not promise a pass.

If you still lack the base pieces, people usually prepare

  1. ITIN (or SSN)

No SSN, use an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number. Community path is often a CAA agent. Timelines run in months. Fees vary by agent. On this site start with US digital-resident remote setup. If you have the number but not the letter, see IRS resend CP565. IRS and the agent that day win.

  1. A US residential address

Full street, including apartment or unit. No PO Box. Cards also cannot go to a PO Box. A private mailbox / CMRA path needs USPS Form 1583 style certification. After a move, update Money, Settings, Personal Information.

  1. A US mobile number

It must finish X verification. Community picks include T-Mobile, Ultra Mobile, Tello, Red Pocket. Stable OTP delivery wins.

Those three also smooth a lot of other US bank and fintech apps. A fuller order of number, address, ITIN, a dedicated IP, and credit build is in digital-resident remote setup. Launch notes sit in X Money US launch.

Three hard lines

  1. Name and address must match ID and public records. No nicknames, no missing unit. Many fails are one name or one door number off.
  2. One person with several X accounts usually opens Money on only one. If papers are already on another account you did not open, contact Support now. If you want to switch, empty and close the old Money first, then apply on the target account.
  3. Rates, cash back, limits, and fees move. money.x.com, the interest FAQ, cash-back terms, in-account Limits, and Statements and Tax Forms win.

Steps

1. Self-check eligibility and wait for the tab

  1. Confirm Premium or Premium+ if you are in the current public cohort.
  2. Confirm the US mobile is verified on X.
  3. Decide SSN or ITIN, and whether the US residential address can be written in full (including unit).
  4. Open X and look for Money in the sidebar or main nav.

No tab, update, restart, change network. Still nothing, wait for the notice. Do not close and reopen the account all day.

2. Have the papers ready before you apply

When the tab appears, do not rush submit. Have

  • Legal name that matches government ID exactly
  • Date of birth
  • SSN or ITIN
  • Full US residential address (apartment / unit, not a PO Box)
  • Unexpired government photo ID
  • A phone or computer that can do fingerprint, Face ID, or a device PIN (for passkey)

No nicknames. Do not drop the unit. Residence, billing, and ID addresses should be able to match public records.

3. Finish identity checks and security

  1. Open Money, read the account documents, submit real identity data.
  2. If auto-match fails, upload ID and a selfie. Strong light, four edges, no glare. Fail, try another device or a more stable network.
  3. Create a passkey. Money requires passkey login. Fingerprint, Face ID, or PIN. After open, check Money, gear, Security and Privacy, Credentials.
  4. Set an X Card PIN. Skip birthday, 1111, 1234, 1357. Too many wrong PINs can lock the card. Unlock in the app or contact Support.
  5. Set a daily spend cap if you want. Common path is Settings, Limits, or Security and Privacy. Over the cap, the charge declines.

Confirm these four before you call the account open

  1. Money home shows an available-balance area
  2. Account Details shows account type, account number, routing number, bank name and address
  3. A virtual X Card is issued and active
  4. Settings opens Personal Information, Limits, Security and Privacy, Statements and Tax Forms

All four means you have an account you can fund and manage, not only a welcome screen.

4. Make a small first deposit

Do not move payroll or a large balance on day one. Use an amount you can check easily and walk deposit, post, then send out.

Open Money, Deposit. Common rails.

| Rail | Timing and notes (usual official language) | |------|---------------------------| | Linked bank ACH | Usually 1-3 business days | | Linked bank debit | Usually instant | | Bank wire | Sending bank and the app prompt win | | Mobile check | Deposit, Check, scan front and back. Endorse the back and write “For Mobile Deposit at X Money”. Funds often available in up to about 4 business days. No foreign, third-party, post-dated, or altered checks. You can usually cancel before about 15:00 Eastern that day | | Partner retail cash load | Deposit, Cash, map a partner shop, hand cash to the clerk. Often posts in minutes and free. This is not an ATM cash deposit. ATM cash deposits can charge and are not reimbursed | | Another Money user | They Send to you | | Payroll / benefits Direct Deposit | Settings, Direct Deposit. Pinwheel can change the employer side in one tap, or you give the employer the account and routing from Account Details. Marketing says up to about 2 days early |

After it posts, check

  • Balance
  • Activity status
  • Settings, Limits for deposit / withdraw / card / ATM / check caps

There is no single public limit table for everyone. Your in-account Limits win, and risk monitoring can change them.

If a deposit fails, read the app first. Money that reached X Money and then bounced usually has a reason in the app. Money returned before it arrived is often clearer at the sending bank.

5. Send, request, withdraw

Send to other X users Money, Send, search the X handle or scan a QR.

Request Money, Request.

When both sides have Money, P2P is usually free and instant. Official FAQ says no P2P cap after identity checks. If the other person has not opened yet, they have to claim. Unclaimed funds often return in about 14 days. P2P is only between Money users. International P2P is not available yet. A send to the wrong person usually cannot be pulled back. Ask them to return it. If you think it is fraud or a stolen account, contact Support now.

Mail a check Send, Mail a Check, person or business. Standard post is often free, about 5-7 business days. The amount leaves the balance when the check is issued. To stop payment on an uncashed check, contact Support with payee, amount, and date. Two-day rush post is often about $25 in public notes.

Withdraw Money, Withdraw.

| Withdraw rail | Fee (usual public notes) | Timing | |----------|----------------------|------| | ACH to a bank | Free | Usually 1-3 business days | | Instant to a debit | About 1.75%, floor about $0.25 | Instant | | ATM cash | ATM fees often refunded in full inside 3 calendar days (including foreign ATMs) | Instant | | Cash back at a retailer | If the merchant supports it | Instant | | Mailed check | Standard post free | Usually 5-7 business days |

If you are not in a hurry, use ACH. Instant debit if you need the money now, and price the fee. ATMs also have their own per-swipe and daily caps.

6. The 6% interest and 3% cash-back rules

Interest (official rate sheet around 2026-07-27, it moves)

| Subscription | Standard APY | About the rate | Lift | |--------|----------|----------------|----------| | Premium+ | About 6.00% | About 5.83% | Official rate page wins | | Premium | About 4.00% | About 3.92% | About $1,000 of qualifying deposits in about 34 days can lift to about 6.00% |

Qualifying Deposit, public definition

  1. ACH direct deposit with SEC code PPD
  2. X creator payouts (Creator Revenue Sharing or Creator Subscriptions)

Interest accrues daily and pays monthly. Cash sitting in the sweep still earns. Rates float. interest FAQ and the app win.

Cash back

  • Usually only qualifying X Card spend that has fully settled
  • Account must be positive and in good standing
  • Often posts about every 7 calendar days, or redeem earlier in the app
  • Category percentages can differ, a cap can apply, rounding to the cent
  • Returns / voids claw back cash back already given
  • Unposted cash back can die if you close
  • Manufactured spend (no real sale, self-dealing, spend only for cash back) can be reversed or denied

Excluded MCC categories in the terms include, among others, wires and money orders, some jewelry and precious metals, game-style digital goods, financial-institution cash / services, foreign currency and traveler’s checks, brokers, some real-estate rent, stored-value loads, gambling and lottery, fines and taxes, some government and postal services. Cashback Rewards Terms and in-app rates win. Marketed “3%” is not every swipe.

Other usual fees (public notes, they move)

  • Premium. About 2 free US outbound wires a year, then about $20 each
  • Premium+. Unlimited free US outbound wires
  • Standard mailed check free, two-day post about $25
  • First metal replacement free, then about $35 each
  • Foreign transactions usually have no extra foreign-transaction fee. Foreign currency still converts to USD. The real rate matters
  • Instant debit withdraw about 1.75% (floor about $0.25)

7. Everyday card use

  1. Virtual card. Issued and active at open. Online and digital wallets.
  2. Physical card. Order in the X Card area, to the mailing address in Settings, Personal Information (residential, not a PO Box). Both cards share the account, different numbers, managed separately.
  3. Activate the physical card in Money, X Card.
  4. Apple Pay / Google Pay can hold the X Card for tap to pay.
  5. Subscriptions and recurring charges work if the balance covers them.
  6. Lost / stolen. X Card, Security, temporary lock, replace, and dispute odd charges in the app.
  7. Returns. The merchant refunds. Often 5-7 business days back to the balance. Past about 60 days with no credit, open a dispute in the app.

8. Bank and FDIC structure

X Payments LLC is not an FDIC bank. Deposit accounts come from Cross River Bank (Member FDIC) and others. The X Card is issued by Cross River Bank under a Visa licence and managed by X Payments.

Base FDIC is about $250,000 per depositor, per insured institution, per ownership category. X Money also uses a cash sweep to spread funds across several insured banks. The design can raise combined cover (marketing has shown about $10M, about 40 times the $250k base).

The higher figure is not an unconditional promise. Same-category deposits you already hold at a participating bank combine. Pass-through insurance has conditions. Official FAQ says the system cannot keep every bank under $250,000 at every moment. Amounts over that at that bank are not FDIC-insured there.

Sweep notes (FAQ wins)

  • Same-day sweep cutoff is often 12:00 Eastern. Arrivals before that can sweep that day. Later slips to the next business day
  • You only withdraw from the Money account. The system pulls back from sweep accounts as needed
  • Monthly statements list each participating bank and your balance there
  • You can opt out of a given bank in the sweep. After opt-out, cash stays at Cross River and cover usually returns to about $250,000

Read the FAQ and account disclosures yourself on large balances. Do not stop at the marketing number.

9. Close and change details

  • Address / phone. Money, Settings, Personal Information
  • Legal name. Update at SSA or the official side first, then change Personal Information in Money. If public records do not match, you may need a court paper or a marriage certificate plus new ID
  • After a move, update the full address at once so review and card mail do not stall
  • Close. Money, Settings, Close Account. Withdraw the balance first. Unposted cash back can die
  • Reopen. After a normal close you can usually onboard again and repeat identity checks

Carddoger take

X Money is a daily money account sitting inside X. About 6% APY at the top, about 3% on qualifying swipes, a Visa, P2P, payroll, and worldwide ATM refunds sound complete. The door is still a US batch push. Premium only means you are more likely to sit in the open cohort. It does not promise the Money tab today.

The cloud-resident path is ITIN (or SSN), a US residential address (not a PO Box), a verifiable US mobile, and name plus address that match ID. After open, confirm the balance page, Account Details, the virtual card, and Settings. Walk a small deposit and withdraw before payroll or a large balance. Interest follows the subscription tier and qualifying direct deposit. Cash back follows settlement and excluded MCCs. Large deposits need your own FDIC and sweep math.

money.x.com, in-account terms, and Cross River / FDIC disclosures win. This combines official product pages, FAQs, rate and cash-back terms, bank notices, and community process notes. It is not an account, yield, or insurance promise.
