Terms that matter

Public notes of the limits include these.

  • Only Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines marketed flights.
  • Direct on the site or app. Other channels usually do not count.
  • The flight must start in the United States, including territories, and be paid in US dollars.
  • Onboard spend and e-gift cards do not count.
  • Hotels, cars, rides, group tours, packages, and travel insurance do not count.
  • Flight Pass, Alaska trips, company stores and uniforms, lounge memberships and day passes, bought points or miles, cargo, and corporate travel-managed channels usually sit out. The full offer terms win.

How to use it

  1. Confirm the offer is on your card first. The author and spouse missed it on several cards. Targeting looks tight.
  2. Add or enroll, then book. Adding after you buy usually fails.
  3. Several tickets can fill the $400. You do not need one long-haul.
  4. Some people talk about booking main cabin and cancelling into the Alaska wallet. Non-saver tickets more often move into wallet credit. A cancel inside 24 hours often refunds to the original payment method and may never trigger the Amex credit.
  5. Wallet funds technically last about 12 months from the original ticket date. Booking and cancelling again may reset that clock. Alaska's account and fare rules win. This page does not push that path.
