What happened
Kraken emailed some users with the subject A new deposit method is here. The point is you can send crypto from another exchange straight into Kraken, without copying and pasting a deposit address. The partner is Mesh. Funds still move on-chain. Credit rules match a normal on-chain deposit.

How deposits used to work
Moving coins across venues used to look like this.
- Open Deposit on Kraken, pick the coin and network, and generate a long address (or a QR).
- Open withdraw on the source exchange, paste the address, then confirm network, amount, and any memo or tag.
- Wait for on-chain confirms. Kraken credits the balance.
The pain sits in a few places. A mistyped address, the wrong network, or a missing memo can lose coins or freeze them for a long time. For a firm or anyone who moves size often, paste itself is the tax.
The new path
The email's new method connects the source exchange inside Kraken. You pick the asset and amount. After confirm, the source side starts the on-chain send, and Kraken credits the balance.
Official step summary
- Open Deposit. Pick the asset and network.
- For the source, pick Another exchange.
- Sign in to the source through Mesh and set the send amount.
- Confirm the transfer. The source exchange may ask you to confirm again.
Credit timing, per the email, is after the required network confirms, same as a standard crypto deposit.
What no address actually means
No address here means you do not type or paste the deposit address in the interface. It does not mean the coins leave the blockchain. The email is plain. Crypto is sent on-chain. The balance posts the same way as any other deposit.
Mesh connects the source. The email says Kraken never sees or stores your login for the other platform. Whether it is available in your jurisdiction and account type is an in-app question.
Launch scope and fees
| Item | Email wording | |------|----------| | First venue | Coinbase for now | | Later | More platforms are being added over time | | If missing | The standard wallet address still works | | Kraken fee | Kraken charges nothing on this method | | Source fee | The source exchange may still charge a withdrawal or network fee |
Upside and limits
Relative to a pasted address
- One fewer error-prone step. Wrong address or wrong chain is less likely.
- The flow stays inside Kraken Deposit.
- Kraken does not add a fee on this method. Cost is mostly the source and gas.
- Login goes through Mesh. The email says Kraken does not store the other password.
Limits
- Coinbase only at launch. Other venues still use the old path.
- It is still an on-chain send, not an internal book transfer. Confirm times stay.
- Source withdrawal limits, risk checks, 2FA, and address-whitelist rules can still stop you.
- The email is a product note. Who sees it, and whether it is fully live, is an account-page question.
Carddoger take
A small deposit change, and a useful one. The old cross-venue path was generate an address, then paste it. Now you can connect the source inside Kraken and let Mesh help start the on-chain send. It is still an on-chain deposit. The paste step is what went away.
If you often move coins from Coinbase to Kraken, look for Another exchange under Deposit. Until other venues appear, the standard address path is still there. Read the source withdrawal and network fees. Kraken charges nothing does not mean the whole trip is free.
The Kraken app or site deposit page and the terms that day win. This is the official product note, not investment or deposit advice.
