Capital One Shopping targeted activation, up to about $100 back on a $100 hotel or car rental
A targeted Capital One Shopping Activation Bonus. One hotel or vacation-rental booking over about $100, or one car rental over about $100, can pay up to about $
What happened
Capital One Shopping's desktop homepage is showing a large spend Activation Bonus. Page copy says book a hotel or vacation rental over about $100 and take up to about $100 cash back. The same site has also shown a car-rental variant, about $100 spend, up to about $100 back.
These banners are usually targeted. Opening capitaloneshopping.com may show one, or none. The website, including a phone browser, is usually more likely to show it than the app.

The screenshot title is Claim your Activation Bonus offers, and it notes one Activation Bonus of each type. The hotel card says Earn up to $100 when you book a hotel or vacation rental over $100, next to Browse Properties. Hotel and car tiles often share the over about $100, up to about $100 shape. Your live homepage banner is the offer.
How it usually works
- See the matching Activation Bonus banner on Capital One Shopping.
- Finish the booking from the on-site entry they name.
- Hotel or vacation rental through the Hotels Price Comparison Portal - Car rental through the on-site Travel Portal entry
- One qualifying transaction hits about $100. Hotel and car count separately.
- After the stay or the rental, wait for the credit window.
A self-book on Hotels.com, Vrbo, or another off-site page usually will not count. The booking has to stay on Capital One Shopping's own compare or travel path.
What counts as qualifying spend
- One transaction has to clear the bar
- Amount is after discounts, store credits, and on-site redemption dollars
- Tax, fees, and travel-insurance add-ons usually sit outside the bar
- Cancelled orders usually pay nothing
Hotel rewards often post about 60 to 90 days after checkout. The offer terms and the account ledger still win.
Is the $100 real cash
Not fully. Capital One Shopping cash back often redeems from a third-party gift-card pool, and that list can itself be targeted. Do not assume ACH to a bank, or PayPal cash.
A gift card around $100 can still work if you already needed a room a bit over $100 before tax, or a one-day car. When tax and fees are extra, a pre-tax total just over $100 is the cleaner book. Gift-card haircuts vary by brand. Discount that yourself before you book.
New users and other entries
New Capital One Shopping users sometimes see a separate signup referral bonus. That is a different offer from this homepage activation. Whether a referral exists, and the amount, sit on the register page.
Before you book
- Open the homepage on desktop or a phone browser and confirm the banner is still there.
- Click Browse Properties or the matching car entry and confirm the jump still sits under Capital One Shopping.
- On the checkout page, check again that pre-tax room or car cost is over the line.
- Keep the confirmation and the stay proof for later.
Carddoger take
This is a targeted, large Capital One Shopping activation. A hotel, vacation rental, or car just over $100 before tax can, in theory, come close to covering the room or car with a gift card. Only if the banner is actually on your homepage, and only if the booking stays on the on-site entry.
If the banner is missing, do not force it. If you see it, accept two things first. The reward is usually a gift card, not open cash. Posting waits until after the trip, then tens of days more. Cancels usually pay nothing.
Your Capital One Shopping homepage banner, the offer terms, and the posting record win. This is public information, not spend or investment advice.
