Shakepay launches savings. Cash and bitcoin sit apart. Blue can show about 5% for a limited window

What happened
Around 11 August 2026 Shakepay mailed Introducing Shakepay savings. The product is a dedicated Shakepay savings account. Everyday spend sits in one place. Longer-term cash and bitcoin sit in another.
What the account does
The mail lists these uses.
- Keep earning interest on savings cash, paid in bitcoin each week.
- Base membership around 1.5% APY - Higher membership around 2% APY
- Eligible Canadian-dollar cash savings can sit under Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) coverage. The mail cites a ceiling around CAD 100,000. Categories and limits follow CDIC and the partner bank.
- Bitcoin rewards can accrue on the bitcoin savings side.
- When you need the money, you can send it back to the everyday account.
Emergency cash and a longer bitcoin holding no longer have to share the same daily-spend balance.

How to read the rates
The mail uses two layers. Keep them separate.
Standard tiers (main list)
- Base about 1.5% APY
- Higher membership about 2% APY
- Interest paid in bitcoin each week
Shakepay Blue bump (second page, asterisk)
- For a limited time, Blue members can earn up to about 5% APY on the first CAD 100,000 of cash in savings
- Cash above CAD 100,000 earns about 3%
- Same weekly bitcoin payout
- People without Blue are pointed to upgrade if they want the 5% band
The footnote is plain. 5% is limited time, Blue, first CAD 100,000 of cash. It is not a permanent 5% on every dollar for everyone.

Insurance and legal entities (footnote)
- Cash savings are provided by Shakepay Financial Inc. Bitcoin savings are provided by Shakepay Inc.
- Eligible CAD deposits can have CDIC coverage up to about CAD 100,000, under CDIC rules
- Bitcoin savings are not covered by CDIC or CIPF
- Shakepay is a CIRO member and is registered as an investment dealer under frameworks that include the AMF
CAD cash has a deposit-insurance story. Bitcoin does not. CDIC does not make bitcoin principal-protected.
How to open it
The mail has an Open a savings account path. The work happens in the Shakepay app or account. Recipients can follow that flow. If you did not get the mail, use whatever Savings entry the app shows.
The company also said
- Customer account and payment-service agreements were updated for savings
- An AMA on the official subreddit, 13 August 2026, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern

Carddoger take
This is a dedicated savings bucket, not a new buy-crypto promo.
- Cash and bitcoin sit in separate accounts, away from everyday spend.
- Cash interest still pays in bitcoin each week. About 1.5% base, about 2% higher tier, Blue limited-time first CAD 100,000 up to about 5%.
- CAD cash has a CDIC story. Bitcoin does not.
Fits people already on Shakepay who want emergency CAD and longer BTC in different buckets. No account yet, start at /g/30. Before chasing 5%, read Blue, the time window, and the CAD 100,000 cap. App terms, the Interest help article, and the customer agreement win. Public mail roundup. Not a yield or insurance promise.
