Users with a 904-prefix ITIN (often called the 904 block in community notes) say the Apple Cash identity check in iPhone Wallet now accepts that number and finishes signup. That unlocks send, receive, add money, and cash out. Newer ITIN prefixes have been blocked in some bank and wallet checks. 904 is one of the newer issue batches.

What you can check in public docs

  1. Apple Cash is provided by Green Dot Bank (Member FDIC). Apple Payments Services LLC is the service provider. Apple is not a bank.
  2. Full features and the FDIC-related balance conditions need you to Verify Identity as the screens ask.
  3. Apple support says verification is for fraud and compliance. If it fails, send, receive, and add money may stay off.
  4. Green Dot’s public terms still describe signup with name, address, date of birth, and a Social Security number. There is no standalone notice that says “904 ITINs are now supported.”

The accurate line is this. The verification path is accepting more 904 ITINs in user tests. Apple and Green Dot have not published a 904 whitelist. Pass or fail still depends on name, address, ID, prefix match, and fraud scoring.

Limits that still apply

  • Place. Public copy is for US residents in the 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico as those pages define them.
  • Age and device. 18 or older for a standard account. Family child accounts have other rules. You need a compatible device, a current OS, and the same Apple Account.
  • What 904 means. An ITIN is nine digits starting with 9, SSN-shaped. “904 block” means the number starts with 904. It is not an immigration status.
  • Failures. Repeat fails, mismatched files, or suspected multi-account use can lock features. Support says to contact Green Dot / Apple Cash staff.
  • Do not mix products. Apple Cash (Green Dot prepaid / P2P) is not Apple Card (Goldman Sachs) and not Apple Savings. One product taking an ITIN does not move the others.

If you want to try it

  1. Update iOS. Open Settings, Wallet & Apple Pay, Apple Cash.
  2. Turn it on and start Verify Identity.
  3. Enter the full ITIN the page asks for. Use the same number as your tax forms. Do not invent one.
  4. Have a US address ready, and a government ID scan if asked. Trust the success or fail text on screen.
  5. If it passes, check that send, receive, and add money actually work. If it fails, do not mash retry. That can trip risk checks.

Treat this as a user-side change in the 904 check, not a press release. Green Dot’s legal language still reads SSN. Your own verify screen is the only pass or fail that matters. Apple Cash is not Apple Card.
