Chase checking customers have been posting that the Chase debit card in Apple Wallet (Apple Pay) now shows a new default face. Open the wallet, tap the card, and the picture no longer matches the old stock art. A first reaction is often a wrong bind or a display bug. In most of those reports it is issuer card art.

Chase debit new default art (no personal data)

The picture in Apple Pay comes from art the issuer sends Apple. It does not have to match the plastic in your pocket. Payment still uses the Device Account Number (token). A new picture does not by itself mean a new card or a new limit.

Common paths in those reports:

  1. Wallet flipped after a system or issuer push.
  2. The new face appeared only after the card was removed and added again.
  3. Chase App Digital Wallets sometimes previewed the new art first.

If you only want a refresh, make sure you can finish bank verification before you delete the card. Re-adding can change the token. Watch subscriptions that charge that token.

Apple and Chase have said Apple Card is expected to move to Chase as issuer. That is a different credit product. This note is only Chase bank debit art in Apple Pay and on some plastic.

How to check your own account:

  1. Open Wallet on iPhone, tap the Chase debit card, and see if the face changed.
  2. Open Chase App on that checking account and look at digital wallet previews.
  3. Treat plastic as whatever you received. Old plastic usually still works while it is valid.
  4. If you dislike the new default, check replace-card flows in Chase App for other designs. Availability varies by account.
