What happened

After Capital One bought Discover, the change cardholders feel first is login. Discover credit card web and app accounts are moving into Capital One’s site and app. US Credit Card Guide collected the August 2026 cadence and caveats. Capital One also has transition notes and FAQs.

Guide notes:

  • About one third of cardholders already got mail saying they can migrate from 27 Jul 2026.
  • That 27 Jul wave is said to be the second batch.
  • If you have no notice, wait. The next date in circulation is about 19 Oct. Whether that is the last wave is not clear.

Media and Capital One public materials also say the move runs in waves across 2026 into early 2027. You get issuer mail when your batch is near.

People in a mailed batch log into Discover online banking and follow the prompts. The guide called the path fairly smooth.

If you already have a Capital One login, the Discover card joins that login. You do not start a second account.

What the guide, the mail, and official FAQs treat as unchanged for now:

| Item | Note | | ---- | ---- | | Brand and network | Discover branding stays. Payments still run on Discover rails | | Cash back | Monthly 5% style categories stay (guide cites a $1,500 spend cap, follow your card terms) | | Plastic | Physical card, number, and APR stay for now | | Service | Phone number and hours stay for now |

Your card agreement and the latest Capital One / Discover FAQ win. Products differ.

Rewards notes in the guide:

  1. Discover rewards currently look separate from Capital One rewards. They do not auto-merge.
  2. Redemption still looks familiar. Miles-style can go to gift cards. Cash rewards can cover posted purchases.
  3. Changes cited include a floor around $25, rewards no longer covering the minimum payment, and Pay with Rewards with Apple Pay going away.

After migration, the FAQ says you can see Capital One Offers.

This wave is Discover credit cards moving online banking. Checking, savings, and loans have their own calendar. Community posts about savings flipping in August, including screenshots that name Performance Savings, are not treated as settled policy here. If you also want a Capital One deposit bonus, decide for yourself whether to close a Discover deposit account first, and read the official deposit-migration FAQ.

Carddoger take

This is a system and app move after the acquisition. It is not a new card number. Migrate when the mail arrives. If there is no mail, wait for the next wave.

If you hold Discover, watch that mail, install Capital One’s app, and follow the prompts.

Treat rewards as two piles for now. Watch the redemption floor and Apple Pay rewards changes.

5% categories and the card number are described as staying for now. Still use the live account page.

Deposit accounts may not share the card wave. One email does not move everything.
