Wise HK Business: use inbound funds within 90 days. It is not a bank account

Wise’s help page for Hong Kong businesses says inbound funds must be used within 90 days: withdraw, send, or convert. No activity in that window can restrict th

What happened

Wise’s help centre has a page for Hong Kong companies: Receiving payments for Hong Kong businesses (Chinese: 香港企業接收款項). The wording is blunt.

Hong Kong–registered businesses can take international client payments on Wise account details. Once the money arrives, you have to use it within 90 days. The examples are withdraw it, send it to someone, or convert it to another currency inside Wise.

The same page says that if there is no activity in the 90 days after a payment lands, the account might be restricted.

That is not a current-account promise. Wise’s Hong Kong site says it is supervised by the Customs and Excise Department, not a bank. The regulation page lists Wise Payments Hong Kong Limited as a Money Service Operator, licence 25-03-03263.

Stored-value wallets in Hong Kong sit under the HKMA’s SVF regime. Wise / TransferWise does not show up on the public SVF licensee register. Recent HKMA press releases also do not announce this 90-day “use it” rule as a Wise-specific order.

Personal vs business is a separate line. Where do I need to live to hold money with Wise? says Hong Kong can hold balances on business accounts only, not personal. Business can hold. The receiving page still clocks a 90-day use window after each inbound payment.

The help page also says Hong Kong business verification is often 4–7 working days. Local details can receive AUD, CAD, EUR, GBP, HUF, NZD, SGD, TRY, and USD. International Swift details cover a longer list, including HKD, USD, CNY, and JPY. Live lists follow the help page that day.

Carddoger take

A Hong Kong Wise Business profile is a cross-border rails product. It is not a Hong Kong bank operating account. Money can arrive. Official copy then wants a withdraw, a send, or a convert inside 90 days. Sitting idle can lead to a restriction.

The licence map is easier to check than a rumoured HKMA raid. Wise in Hong Kong is a C&ED MSO, not an HKMA SVF, and not a bank. Personal HK profiles already cannot hold. Business can hold, with that 90-day use window after receipt. The public SVF list and recent HKMA releases do not pin this rule to a named HKMA notice.

Do not park settlement cash on Wise HK. After an inbound, move it, pay it, or convert it, and keep the account active. What counts as “activity”, and how a restriction is applied, follows the app and support that day.

Wise’s help centre, the live account, and Hong Kong public registers win. This is a public-note roundup. It is not account or treasury advice.
