UK ChatGPT users can now open their own Experian credit score in the chat

What happened

On 20 August 2026 Experian said UK users can now see their own credit score inside ChatGPT. Sign in with an Experian account and the chat can show a personal 1250 Experian Credit Score. Experian calls it a UK first. Until now, asking ChatGPT about credit scores mostly produced a generic explainer from public sources. This upgrade ties the number to a logged-in person.

Edu Castro, managing director of Experian Consumer Services UK and Ireland, said people already ask money questions on many channels, so the answers need to be accurate. The company wants the personal score, and a short account of what sits behind it, on an AI platform millions already open every day. He also pointed at younger users who now start those questions in AI.

What you see in the chat

The release lists four things.

The score appears in Experian’s own widget, in seconds on the company’s wording. The same place shows the band, recent movement, and which inputs went into the calculation. A table of current-account offers sits there too.

The product name is 1250 Experian Credit Score. The release does not say what counts as a strong result on that scale, or how it maps to the familiar 0 to 999 range in the UK. Treat 1250 as Experian’s product name until the live account copy explains the ticks.

The full personalised report and score-improvement tips still sit in the Experian app and website. ChatGPT is a place to see the number and a short breakdown, not a copy of the whole product.

How to open it

There is no separate install. The release says you tag Experian inside ChatGPT and complete a secure sign-in. If you do not have an Experian account, you can register free on the App Store or Google Play.

Experian says it powers most UK lending decisions, including eight in ten credit-card applications. That is the company’s own figure, used to argue that this number matters.

The most specific paragraph is about privacy. Experian says the score is shown in its own logged-in experience, and that the design keeps the number from being exposed to the model or used when the model writes a reply. The score stays on Experian’s side. The chat only draws it. The release publishes no technical spec and names no third-party audit.

What shipped in March

On 13 March 2026 Experian already launched a UK credit-score app in ChatGPT. That version used aggregated, anonymised data to show typical scores by postcode and age group, searchable as @Experian UK. It answered what nearby people look like, not what your file says.

The August upgrade is the first time a personal account is wired into that same chat.

The survey in the release

Experian designed and analysed its own study. Qualtrics ran fieldwork from 8 to 19 May 2026 among 691 UK adults who already use ChatGPT and have the mobile app installed. Among regular ChatGPT users, 62% said they turn to AI for help with financial goals, 91% said they would find an Experian ChatGPT app helpful, and 86% said they would trust it, with data privacy the largest single factor. Among 18- to 34-year-olds, 38% named learning about personal finance as a top money goal, and that group is still among the least likely to have checked a credit score.

This is not a sample of all UK adults. The 91% and 86% questions asked about a product that did not yet exist. They measure stated intent, not use after launch.

The claim that the model cannot see the score is a product statement. The release attaches no audit. How far you plug a credit file into a chat is still your call.
