Lebara UK eSIM, cheap keep-alive, fixes, and a giffgaff PAC port
UK Lebara as a cheap keep-alive. Invite 50% off eSIM, cancel renewal, PAYG SMS. Fixes for no outbound SMS, no service, and a missing Plan. Optional giffgaff PAC
What this is
Lebara is a common UK MVNO on Vodafone. People who want a UK number at a low keep-alive cost, or who want an exit from giffgaff, often do this.
- Open the invite and take the 50% plan (screenshots show 50% off the first 3 months)
- Buy the cheapest 30-day plan as eSIM (list often £5, about £2.50 after the cut, 5GB)
- Scan it in China, activate, take the SMS
- Cancel auto-renew, add a little PAYG, keep the number on SMS
- Optional. Port a giffgaff number in with a PAC
- If SMS will not send, the line shows no service, or the Plan is missing, use the fixes at the end
This follows working screenshots and community steps. Prices, stacked discounts, keep-alive days, and roaming rates move. Lebara’s site, the account, and the mail win.
Before you start
Invite and 50% off (do this first)
Start on this invite, then pick a plan and pay. Do not buy from the ordinary home page and look for a discount later.
https://aklam.io/4kOTx3Ee
- What it does. 50% off the current promo (landing copy often says 50% off for the first 3 months)
- How to use it. Open the link on phone or computer, confirm you are on a Lebara / promo page, then pick the cheapest 30-day plan and eSIM
- If you skip the invite. You usually cannot add 50% later. You pay list
- Before pay, check the plan card for 50% off and the cut price (for example £5 to £2.50)
Why people pick Lebara (community notes)
| Point | Notes | |----|------| | ID | Community experience. Checkout usually does not ask for a passport or ID scan (the live site wins) | | Activation | You do not have to be in the UK, and you do not have to lean on Wi-Fi Calling. You can download / scan the eSIM in China | | Keep-alive cost | After you cancel the monthly plan, you use PAYG. A few SMS a year. Community math can get very cheap | | Network | Vodafone. Plan details also say Runs on Vodafone network | | Pay | Visa, Mastercard, Amex, PayPal are common |
Carrier rules move. “No ID” and “activate from abroad” follow that day’s checkout and terms. They are not a permanent promise.
What to prepare
| Item | Notes | |------|------| | Entry | Open https://aklam.io/4kOTx3Ee first | | Email | Must take the Welcome mail and the eSIM PDF | | UK address | Postcode plus door. You can look up a legal address on a map. Do not use it for fraud | | Card | Cardholder name in the real pinyin on the card helps the charge go through | | Phone | Native eSIM, or an add-on eSIM (XSIM and similar) plus that app | | Wi-Fi | Install and activate on Wi-Fi. Keep data roaming off on that line |
Risks
- 50% off, plan prices, and roaming rates move
- A UK address or payment risk check can decline the card or hold the order
- Data roaming in China can be expensive (community notes around £93/GB. Keep data off)
- A port needs a giffgaff PAC and Lebara to accept it. It usually lands on a UK weekday
- This is a process note, not a promise the line will open or stay alive
Steps
1. Start on the invite (50% off)
- Copy and open https://aklam.io/4kOTx3Ee
- Follow it into the Lebara buy flow
- Confirm you arrived on the invite path before you pick a plan. Do not open a second tab on the ordinary site and buy there
2. Pick the cheapest 30-day plan and eSIM
- In the list pick a 30-Day Plan, the cheapest tier (screenshot is 5GB, £5 list, £2.50 after the cut, badge 50% off for 3 months)
- Show Details, read the page, Buy
- If it asks whether this is an iPhone Air / eSIM device, pick Yes (or the eSIM path that matches your phone), then Continue

3. Email, password, UK address
On Enter Your Personal Details
- Email twice
- First / Last Name, Password
- Address. Type a UK postcode and SEARCH, or use manual address

4. Check the order, pay, take the eSIM mail
- Check name, email, plan (5GB Monthly Plan), eSIM £0, Grand Total
- Some checkout pages still show a £5 Grand Total. Whether you are on the 50% path, plus Amount Charged on the card SMS or the mail, wins
- PROCEED TO PAYMENT. Put the cardholder name in the real pinyin on the card
- A Thank You page should appear and tell you to check email for eSIM setup

Welcome to Lebara mail has the order and iOS / Android install notes. A PDF (QR / install code) is often attached at the bottom. It also says you can request a port after the eSIM is on the phone.

No mail. Check junk. Later look in MyLebara for an install-code entry.
5. Install the eSIM
| Device | What to do | |------|------| | Native eSIM phone | Use the mail button, or Settings, Cellular, Add eSIM, scan the PDF QR | | Add-on eSIM (XSIM and similar) | Open that app, add eSIM, scan the PDF |
Install on stable Wi-Fi. The mail says do not delete the eSIM casually. You may need a new code.
6. Activate, and keep data roaming off
Before you turn the line on, turn data roaming off on that line so China-side data does not bill at the high rate.
- Stay on Wi-Fi
- Turn the Lebara line on and wait for a network (often a roaming R)
- If it sits on no service, turn off automatic network select and try China Unicom or China Mobile. Still dead, use the fixes below
- An SMS with your number plus a confirm mail means it is live
- If about 7 days have passed and you still cannot send SMS, use the site Chat and ask a human to Refresh roaming configuration
7. Sign in, attach the number, manage the plan
Open the site account (a proxy can help if China direct access is odd).
- First visit often shows Attach your SIM. Enter the new UK number (leading 0), Continue, take the SMS
- You should see the number and Your Plans

Turn off auto-renew (zero monthly keep-alive).
- Manage / plan settings, find Automatic renewal, turn it off
- Cancel plan / confirm cancel auto-renew as the page asks
- That stops next month’s plan charge
8. Top up PAYG for keep-alive
- Home or menu, Top Up / Pay as you go credit
- The usual floor is £5, for later keep-alive SMS
- This is pay-as-you-go credit, not another month of plan
9. Remove the payment card
- Payment method
- On the card menu, Remove as default first
- Then Remove the card
Add a card again only when you need another top-up.
10. Optional. Port giffgaff onto Lebara
For people who want to keep a giffgaff number. Activation mail often has Move your existing mobile number to Lebara, then complete an online request.
- Get a PAC
- On a phone with the giffgaff SIM, text PAC to 65075, or - Read PAC in giffgaff Profile and settings (often valid 30 days)
- Open the port link in the Lebara mail (eSIM must already be installed)
- Take the SMS on the current Lebara temporary number
- Enter the giffgaff number you want to keep (leading 0) plus the PAC
- Pick a date (usually UK Monday to Friday) and Confirm port
- On that day the old number overwrites the Lebara temporary number
An expired PAC, a weekend date, or a messy account on either side can fail. Get a new PAC and submit again.
11. Keep-alive rules and rates (community notes)
| Rule | Community notes (site wins) | |------|------------------------| | Active | About one balance change every 90 days (for example one SMS) | | Pause and grace | Past about 90 days the line can pause. Inside about a year, another £5 top-up often brings it back | | Full close | Community talk is about 455 days (about 15 months) with no activity | | Reminder | A phone calendar every 80 days. Send one SMS to any number |
China-side roaming (community notes, official Roaming table wins).
| Item | Notes | |------|------| | Incoming SMS | Free | | Outbound SMS | About £0.49 each | | Calls | About £1.99 a minute | | Data | About £93 / GB (keep data roaming off) |
Rough cost. Four keep-alive SMS a year is about £2. The first £5 top-up often lasts a long time. The first plan at the 50% path (screenshot often £2.50) is extra.
12. Common problems
Three community stalls. Work them in order. Then use human Chat.
Problem 1. Past the about-7-day window, SMS still will not send
Community / support notes.
- New Lebara lines often have an overseas roaming lock for about 7 days
- Past that, if SMS still fails, the known issue is roaming config that did not refresh on Lebara’s side, not a broken phone setting
What to do.
- Sign in at Lebara, scroll to the bottom, Contact
- Start Chat, send human support until a person picks up
- Say the new-line about-7-day window is over, you still cannot send SMS from abroad, please Refresh roaming configuration
- After they do it, send one SMS on the spot. Many lines recover there
If the bot loops, keep sending human support / agent.
Problem 2. eSIM installed, still No Service
Cause.
- Automatic network select did not land on a China roaming partner
What to do.
- Cellular / mobile settings, turn off automatic carrier / automatic select
- In the list, try China Unicom or China Mobile
- Toggle airplane mode, or reboot, then watch the bars
- Fallback. A few places cannot roam because of the local tower or partner. Try another city or province. If it is fully dead, ask support about a refund (their result wins)
Keep data roaming off on that line while you debug, so a stray data session does not bill.
Problem 3. You paid for a plan, the account shows no Plan
Cause.
- Account state did not sync. The plan never attached to the number
What to do.
- Sign in, Top up about £5 PAYG on that number
- Wait a bit, refresh, see if Your Plans shows the plan
- The £5 stays as keep-alive SMS credit. It is not wasted
If the Plan is still missing for a long time, Chat a human. Send the order number, the charge screenshot, and the mobile number.
Quick list
- Open https://aklam.io/4kOTx3Ee and confirm the 50% path
- Cheapest 30-day 5GB, eSIM, UK address, pay, take the PDF
- Install on Wi-Fi. Data roaming off before you enable the line
- Attach the number, cancel Automatic renewal, top up £5, remove the default card
- One SMS about every 80 to 90 days. Optional giffgaff PAC port
- No SMS / no service / no Plan. Use the fixes, or Chat, or manual select, or a £5 top-up to force a sync
Lebara UK Invite, 50% plan giffgaff Carddoger community
Carddoger take
Lebara fits people who want a cheap UK number, or who are leaving giffgaff. The eSIM can finish in China. Keep-alive is PAYG SMS, not a long monthly plan.
Hold these.
- Register from the invite. https://aklam.io/4kOTx3Ee The goal is the 50% plan (first 3 months 50% off style). Miss it and you rarely get it later
- At activate, data roaming off. SMS only
- Cancel auto-renew, add PAYG, remove the card, so month two does not charge a plan
- Keep-alive is a regular SMS. There is grace after a long idle stretch. Do not gamble all the way to a full close
- No SMS, ask support to refresh roaming. No service, try Unicom / Mobile by hand. No Plan, top up £5 and refresh
- Rates and discounts follow Lebara’s site, the account, and the mail
Lebara and giffgaff pages plus support win. This is a public-process and screenshot note, not a promise the line will open or the port will land.
