What this is

ultra pay is a Visa prepaid card from the Japanese company Yeny. The site is ultra-pay.co.jp. It is not a bank credit card and it has no credit line. With a zero balance it cannot pay for anything.

A 7 November 2026 follow-along finished signup and issuance only: a Japanese mobile number received the SMS, and the app issued a free Visa virtual card with a ¥0 balance. Top-up, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, streaming, and Japanese shopping were not paid in that session.

Before you start

  • You need a Japanese mobile number that can receive SMS. The follow-along used that kind of +81 number. Do not use a disposable code number. Later logins can ask for SMS again.
  • Enter your real date of birth and gender. The 2009-01-01 on a screenshot is a sample. Do not copy a fake birthday.
  • Issuance only means the signup flow completed. Official top-up routes (Seven Bank ATM, Japanese convenience stores, Pay-easy, deferred payment, and official ultra pay gift codes) are from the help pages. This follow-along did not complete a top-up. Ordinary Amazon, Apple, or Google Play gift cards are not ultra pay codes.
  • The site lists ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Netflix, Spotify, and similar services as use cases. That does not mean those merchants will accept this prepaid card. There is no successful charge in this follow-along.
  • Adding the card as an App Store or Google Play payment method is not the same as adding it to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for in-store tap to pay. The store account country also matters.

Steps

1. Install the app and register with a Japanese number

Open ultra pay from the official site on iOS or Android. In new-member signup, enter the Japanese number as digits with no hyphens, set a password of at least 8 characters with letters and numbers, and wait for the SMS code.

2. Enter your details

After the code, enter your date of birth and gender. A minor's signup asks for a guardian's consent. Use the real date.

3. Issue the virtual card if you do not already have one

If the app asks whether you already hold an ultra pay card, the follow-along chose no, then issued the free Visa virtual card. The home screen shows the card and the balance, usually ¥0 at the start. Card number, expiry, and security code stay off public screenshots.

4. Top up before you expect a charge

A prepaid card with no balance cannot pay a subscription. In Japan, Seven Bank ATMs and convenience stores are the documented cash routes. From abroad, the follow-along author wanted to try Pay-easy next, and had not done it. Until one real charge succeeds, do not treat this card as a stable way to pay ChatGPT or a Japanese shop.

Carddoger summary

What this follow-along confirms is narrow: with a Japanese mobile number, the path from signup to a free Visa virtual card is short, and the starting balance is ¥0. It is Yeny's prepaid card, not a credit line. Top-up and merchant acceptance had not happened in the 7 November 2026 record.
