What this guide covers
We wanted a real Austrian mobile number with low upkeep: no monthly plan fee, no constant top-ups, still able to receive SMS codes when needed. We ran yesss! SIMpure (contract + eSIM): €0 to open, €0 monthly, SEPA IBAN at checkout (Wise / N26 / similar; keep a low balance), passport photo KYC, no video call. It is a real A1 Telekom Austria brand number. At writing time the line had been in use for months with stable SMS.

Before you start
- eSIM-capable device (native or compatible eSIM adapter). Physical SIM mail is rarely workable abroad—pick eSIM.
- Passport (or other photo-ID the flow accepts); name must match the order.
- Email that can receive order and activation mail.
- A SEPA IBAN for contract debit (Wise, N26, Myfin, Fiat24, etc.). Do not leave a large balance. Prepaid keep-alive is different; this guide uses contract.
- Austrian address (ZIP + street, e.g. Vienna 1010). Turn off auto-translate on the address step or the picker often fails.
- You may browse a translated page, but switch back to the original language for the address field.
- €0 monthly ≠ every service is free forever, and ≠ a lifetime number promise. Voice/SMS/data are metered; cancellation and arrears follow the carrier.
- Use real identity data. Fake KYC can get you rejected or closed.
Steps
1. Open the SIMpure page
Go to https://www.yesss.at/shop/tarif/simpure Or start from the homepage, then open SIMpure.

2. Choose eSIM
In the cart, pick eSIM (free download, activates in minutes). Physical SIM has postage/fees and is hard to receive overseas.

3. Choose contract (not prepaid)
- Contract: €0.00/month with automatic debit—this guide.
- Prepaid: top up as needed; usually more keep-alive work.
Prefer contract if you want less maintenance.

4. Enter bank / IBAN details
Account holder name, bank name, and IBAN. Prefer an IBAN whose name matches your ID.

5. Enter personal data and Austrian address
Private individual, name and email as on the passport, Austrian ZIP/city/street/number.
Critical: disable auto-translate on this step so the Austrian address autocomplete works (e.g. try ZIP 1010 in Vienna).

6. Submit and open identity verification
After submit, check email confirmation; the site or mail links you to KYC. Tap Identify now (or equivalent).

7. Choose Photo ID
Options usually include Photo ID, Austrian ID, Bank ID. Without Austrian eID/online banking, choose Photo ID.

8. Pick document type and finish selfie match
Choose passport, driving licence, etc. Prefer Passport. Follow the camera flow for document + selfie. Wait for the carrier email when done.

9. Install the eSIM from the QR mail
The mail/PDF has the QR or manual activation codes. On Wi‑Fi, add a cellular plan / eSIM and scan. Keep number, PIN, PUK, and activation codes private.

10. Manual network select if no signal
You should get an activation SMS. If there is no signal, turn off automatic network select and pick a usable network from the list (in mainland China, China Telecom appeared in one test—your list may differ).

11. Invoice after about one month on contract
After roughly a month on contract you typically get a telecom invoice (Rechnung). Where a provider accepts a telephone bill as address proof, this PDF can help—acceptance is never universal.

Carddoger takeaway
SIMpure contract is attractive for a simple reason: €0 signup, €0 monthly, free eSIM, passport photo KYC, no video call, with a low-balance SEPA IBAN for debit. Months of stable SMS in our run; common apps like WhatsApp can receive codes.
Stay clear-eyed: metered usage still costs money; IBAN binding means debits can hit the account; “no upkeep / forever” is not a legal lifetime promise—follow the live terms. Austrian address, original-language address picker, and an eSIM device are the three common failure points.
Best if you already have a European IBAN and want a high-weight Austrian number for SMS. Poor fit if you need truly unlimited free usage or will not provide real ID/address.
